Title : A WONDERFUL CHEMICAL WORLD
Subject : HEALTH - ENVIRONMENT - NUTRITION

They’re everywhere. The paints we use for our walls, the furniture, and the carpets in our house, the clothing, the children’s toys and even the cosmetics.

We can find thousands of compounds within the products that are made to improve our lives. However their extended use may cause very serious damage on human body. Without being aware of it, we are all part of a gigantic, uncontrolled experiment that has been taking place on earth since the end of the World War II.

A research of the environmental organization WWF confirms the cocktail of chemical substances that every European has in his blood: in blood counts that have been carried out on 3 generations of women, many new kinds of chemical substances have been detected, but also some that have been interdicted since decades.

“I got upset most of all because my 12 year-old daughter has already bigger quantities of chemicals and toxics than me”, says Popi Vogiatzi, the “mother” of the Greek family. “Even if there is no “heavy” industry in Greece, our family was one of the most contaminated/infected ones in Europe.”

Reportage Without Frontiers discussed with specialists in the USA, Europe and Greece about the ID of these chemical substances and the damages caused on the human body.

Dangerous chemical products have been detected in the body tissues of almost every human on earth. The exposure to them has been related with various forms of cancer and a number of breeding problems. “I’ve observed in Greece one phenomenon that made me really sad: I saw young children having reduced sperm characteristics and I’ve also verified serious problems in human fertility” said the embryologist, S. Nikolaropoulos. “If we keep on like this, within few years, the sperm will be sold in “banks”, certifies the urologist, N. Zoupanos.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without chemicals. For this reason, Reportage Without Frontiers reports on alternative solutions for the reduction or even the replacement of the chemical substances in our daily life.
