“Greece and the Environment”
With the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Thematic Evening presents one of its biggest researches: Which are the threats for the environment in Greece?
Reportage Without Frontiers presents breath-taking images:
A big research for the water:
What has happened to Assopos 10 months after the diagnosis for the dangerous chromium? 15 borough all over Greece drink water with arsenic. In Aspros village of Polykastro, Kilkis, the former municipality had not informed the residents that the water was dangerous. We visited the health centre of Polykastro in order to ascertain that cancer is highly increased, especially to young people.
The biggest illegal disposal centre in Greece:
In Tagarades, a region of Thessaloniki, there has been dropped, since 1981, 15 million tons of garbage. In 2006 a fire had burst out; it caused a toxic cloud that expanded all over the place. The professor of Aristoteleion University of Thessaloniki, N. Moussioloulos, states that the produced dioxins were 200 times above the limit.
What’s the solution on the circulatory:
What if the solution on the circulatory of Athens is transportation via bike? VELIB is a revolutionary program of renting bikes in Paris that since July 2007 has “wined” the hearts of most Parisians. Is it possible to do something similar in Greece? French and Greek traffic experts talk about what is possible and what is not.
